GOP has Limbaugh, Dems have Michael Moore
Just so nobody thinks that the GOP has a monopoly on idiocy, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin aside:

"Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore on Thursday called for a boycott of the state of Connecticut in reaction to Sen. Joe Lieberman's (I-Conn.) opposition to key provisions of healthcare reform legislation."

What a moron, on several levels... not the least of which is most of the nation "boycotts" CN now - its not like they have anything critical to the national economy anyways. And if they did - yu can be sure that any damage done would not be limited to CN - I mean, c'mon. Most of the citizens of New England micro-states spend money outside their own states just by walking to the local 7-11

Charles P. Pierce describes what he calls the "three great premises" of talk-radio populism in his acerbic book "Idiot America":

First Great Premise: Any theory is valid if it moves units.

Second Great Premise: Anything can be true if someone says it loudly enough.

Third Great Premise: Fact is that which enough people believe. Truth is measured by how fervently they believe it.

Hmm... I guess Obama must really be a socialist Muslim out to destroy our country after all.

    Earth-2
"Astronomers announced this week they found a water-rich and relatively nearby planet that's similar in size to Earth.

While the planet probably has too thick of an atmosphere and is too hot to support life similar to that found on Earth, the discovery is being heralded as a major breakthrough in humanity's search for life on other planets.

"The big excitement is that we have found a watery world orbiting a very nearby and very small star," said David Charbonneau, a Harvard professor of astronomy and lead author of an article on the discovery, which appeared this week in the journal Nature.

The planet, named GJ 1214b, is 2.7 times as large as Earth and orbits a star much smaller and less luminous than our sun. That's significant, Charbonneau said, because for many years, astronomers assumed that planets only would be found orbiting stars that are similar in size to the sun."

    Political idiots
Not too long ago, many Republicans wanted to abolish the filibuster; they were frustrated that the minority party could do things like block judicial nominations and the like. At the time, the Democrats - the minority party - were firmly in favor of preserving the filibuster.

Until now - when they can't muster the unity of a theoretical 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. Now the filibuster is "obstructionist and undemocratic". And all of a sudden, the GOP has discovered its virtue.

    Hypocrites, the lot of them.

The filibuster is a very important tool in preventing a tyranny of the majority party - if an issue is so close that one side cannot break a filibuster, than its a reasonable assumption that they need to re-examine the issues at hand.
